RECKLESS DRIVING

Around 12:41 a.m., April 7, Warwick Police Officer Connor R. Bemis was traveling south on Interstate 95 near Jefferson Boulevard in the far right lane when he spotted a silver Honda traveling in the far left lane “at an extremely high rate of speed.”

“It should be noted that the road conditions were very poor, as it rained heavily throughout the duration of my previous shift, which I had worked form (4 p.m. to midnight). It should be noted that the roads were still currently very wet, as the rain had just recently stopped. I estimated the vehicle to be traveling at well over 100 miles per hour and advised dispatch that I was going to attempt a traffic stop.”

Bemis spotted the vehicle again in the area of I-95 South and the Airport Connector, but it was “too far ahead” of his cruiser as he “struggled to catch up.”

“The vehicle continued to travel at an extremely high rate of speed, which I estimated to be well above 100 miles per hour in a clearly posted 55 miles per hour zone. I then observed the vehicle to swerve in between the far left lane and the lane to the right multiple times, swerving in and out of traffic and the road conditions remained very poor.”

Bemis accelerated to 100 miles per hour “and the suspect vehicle was still gaining distance,” according to the arrest report.

“The vehicle finally slowed down to approximately 90 (mph) in the area of Route 95 South and East Avenue,” Bemis wrote.

Bemis initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Talia L. Gallucci, 21, of 181 Heritage Drive, East Greenwich. She had two passengers.

“Gallucci admitted that she had been speeding and stated that she had been traveling at approximately 110 miles per hour,” Bemis wrote. “Gallucci also stated she had been weaving in and out of cars in traffic so ‘her friend could get home to her boyfriend.’”

Police decided to arrest Gallucci for Reckless Driving and Other Offenses Against Public Officials, a misdemeanor. Gallucci also received citations for Speeding (1-10 mph over the posted speed limit), Laned Roadway Violations, Reasonable and Prudent Speeds, and Driving with a Suspended License (first offense).

DUI

Around 2:19 a.m., April 5, Warwick Police Officers Robert S. Macera and Frank P. Matarese responded to Balise Toyota, 1400 Post Road, for the report of an erratic driver in the parking lot. Security personnel at the scene told police the suspect vehicle was a gray Subaru with Massachusetts plates.

Eventually, police found the suspected driver on foot. According to police, the suspect smelled of alcohol and had watery, bloodshot eyes.

Police identified the alleged driver as Benjamin G. Gibson, 41, of 10002 Inwood Drive, Woburn, Massachusetts.

Security identified Gibson as the erratic driver, according to the arrest report.

“I then asked Gibson where he was coming from to which he could not provide me with an exact answer,” Macera wrote. “Gibson stated that he was tired and wanted to go to sleep. I then asked Gibson if he knew where he was to which he stated that he was in Massachusetts. Gibson appeared to be confused when I advised him that he was in Warwick, RI.”

Police asked Gibson to submit to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. He consented. Following the tests, Gibson was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence.

He was transported to Warwick Police Headquarters for booking. His vehicle was located, searched and eventually towed from the scene.

Gibson refused a chemical breath test, according to police.

Gibson was charged with DUI of Liquor (BAC unknown) and cited for Refusal to Submit to Chemical Test (first offense).

NO LICENSE

Around 2:46 a.m., April 1, Sgt. Aaron C. Kay was on patrol in an unmarked cruiser traveling west on Toll Gate Road near the intersection with Bald Hill Road when he spotted a grey Honda Accord pass by.

The driver allegedly held a “cell phone in his right hand, holding it up to his right ear,” according to the arrest report.

“I began traveling along side the vehicle, as it was still traveling in the right northbound lane,” Kay wrote in the report. “I observed the operator to still be on his cell phone, speaking into it while traveling.”

Kay initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Timothy A. Carlos, 32, of 6104 Scituate Vista Drive, Cranston. Carlos told Kay he was talking to his mother on the phone.

Carlos told police that he did not have a driver’s license or active registration.

“It was determined that Carlos did have a suspended license with several prior offenses,” Kay wrote. “He also had two active bench warrants for driving without a license.”

The driver’s mother responded to the scene to take custody of the vehicle. Carlos was arrested and transported to Warwick Police Headquarters. He was charged with Driving with a Suspended License (fourth offense), a misdemeanor. He also received a citation for Mobile Cell Phone Usage Operator.

Carlos was later transported to the ACI and turned over to DOC custody.

FUGITIVE ARREST

Around 9:22 a.m., April 3, Warwick Police Officer Nathaniel Gray was on patrol when he spotted a gray 2021 Jeep Wrangler driving south on Post Road.

“I ran checks on said vehicle and ultimately confirmed that the passenger of the vehicle was Nicole Perue,” Gray wrote in the arrest report. Police identified the passenger as Nicole Marie Perue, 34, of 81 Harley St., West Warwick. “Upon running checks on Perue I observed that she was currently (wanted) by the Attleboro Police Department for a probation violation from an original charge of burglary and had four Rhode Island court warrants.”

Gray initiated a traffic stop in the vicinity of Fast Freddie’s, at 2003 Post Road. He asked Perue to step out of the car. She complied.

Perue was placed under arrest and transported to Warwick Police Headquarters for booking. She was charged with one count of Fugitive From Justice, a felony, and arrested on the four outstanding Rhode Island court warrants. She was ultimately transported to Third District Court and turned over to the custody of the Rhode Island Sheriff’s Department.
