DUI

Around 1:20 p.m., July 5, Warwick Police responded to 721 Centerville Road to assist with a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, police identified the driver of a Jeep Cherokee with front end damage as Jesus E. Matos, 31, of 19 Bailey St., Second Floor, Cranston.

According to police at the scene, Matos had “watery, mildly bloodshot eyes, (and) his pupils appeared to be more constricted than normal.” Police also say they detected the “odor of (an) alcoholic beverage” on Matos.

Police asked Matos to consent to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. Following the tests, Matos was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor/Drugs (blood alcohol content unknown, first offense) and cited for Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test (first offense).

According to police, Matos also “refused to participate in a Drug Recognition Evaluation.”

DUI

Around 2:23 a.m., July 6, Warwick Police on routine patrol in the area of Jefferson Boulevard and Coronado Road spotted a white 2024 BMX X3 with Illinois plates stopped at a green light. The driver then allegedly made an illegal turn against the traffic signal.

According to the arrest report, the vehicle allegedly swerved into the opposite lane of travel and traveled at 50 miles per hour (15 miles over he 35 mph speed limit).

Warwick Police Officer Brent W. Giles initiated a traffic stop. Police identified the driver as James C. Smith, 33, of 4010 Leisure Drive, Temple Hills, Maryland.

Giles said he smelled alcohol and Smith “slurred and mumbled and he had bloodshot and watery eyes.” He told police he was tired from a long drive.

Police asked Smith to consent to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. Following the tests, Smith was arrested and charged with DUI (0.15 BAC or greater). He consented to a chemical breath test, and according to police, the test results recorded a 0.154 BAC and a 0.151 BAC. Police said he also received several traffic citations.

DRIVING WITHOUT A LICENSE

Around 2:36 a.m., July 8, Warwick Police conducting a “directed patrol” of the Oakland Beach seawall in a marked cruiser spotted a silver Honda Accord in the beach parking lot.

“It should be noted that the beach was closed to the public and no one should be on this area after dark,” Warwick Police Officer Alejandro J. Martinez wrote in the arrest report.

Police checked the vehicle’s registration and found the registered owner had a suspended license, and her description matched the driver. After the vehicle drove out of the lot, police initiated a motor vehicle stop.

Police identified the driver as Melissa A. Guzman, 32, of 290 Beckwith St., Cranston.

Guzman was arrested and charged with Driving After Denial/Revocation/Suspension Certain Violations (third or subsequent offense), a misdemeanor. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

NO LICENSE

Around 1:51 p.m., July 8, Warwick Police Officer Nathaniel Gray was driving north on Post Road near the intersection with Bucklin Avenue when he spotted a black 2014 Infiniti Q50 with Rhode Island plates.

According to the arrest report, Gray knew the “registered owner of the vehicle” was wanted out of Third District Court for failure to appear at a hearing.

Police identified the driver as Dange G. Ardon, 24, 735 Park Ave., Apt. 2, Cranston.

“Upon running checks, I determined that her warrant was still active and her vehicle’s registration was cancelled,” Gray wrote in the arrest report. “The vehicle ultimately took a right turn onto Bucklin Avenue, where I conducted a traffic stop.”

Ardon was arrested on the active warrant. She was charged with Driving with a Suspended License (fourth offense, a misdemeanor) and cited for Operating a Motor Vehicle with Cancelled Registration. Ardon was transported to the ACI in Cranston.

WARRANT ARREST

Around 5:30 p.m., Aug. 7, Cranston Police Officers arrested Alisa J. Robinson, 30, of 984 Providence St., West Warwick, for a bench warrant. The arrest was the result of a car stop on Dyer Avenue at Argyle Street. Robinson was transported to the ACI, according to Cranston Police.

SHOPLIFTING

Around 4:14 p.m., July 8, Warwick Police responded to Target at the Warwick Mall, 400 Bald Hill Road, for the report of a shoplifting in progress.

Upon arrival, police were informed that the suspect was a man wearing a red/black shirt, jean shorts and red sneakers. He had allegedly stolen 16 items worth a total value of $559.34, but fled when confronted.

Police found the alleged suspect in the mall’s food court, standing behind a pillar, without a shirt.

“I then told the male to turn around and put his hands behind his back,” Warwick Police Officer Nathaniel Gray wrote in the arrest report. “He complied at first but once I gripped his hands with my left hand he began to pull his hands away from me.”

Police identified the suspect as Joseph W. Moten, 49, of 265 Dexter Ave., Apt. 204, Pawtucket.

Police arrested Moten and charged him with Shoplifting (second offense, greater than $100) and Resisting Legal or Illegal Arrest.

DOMESTIC SIMPLE ASSAULT

Around 8 a.m., Aug. 1, Cranston Police Officers arrested Thomas Maher, 46, of 134 Strawberry Field Road, Warwick, for Domestic Simple Assault, Domestic Disorderly Conduct, and Domestic Failure to Relinquish Telephone. The arrest was the result of a disturbance at 69 Fort Ave. Maher was transported to 3rd District Court for arraignment.

WARRANT ARREST

Around 1:20 p.m., Aug. 1, Cranston Police Officers arrested Richard Wilmot, 39, of 16 Angell St., West Warwick, for a parole board detention warrant out of the Rhode Island Department of Corrections. The arrest was the result of an assistance call to Warwick Police at Dunkin Donuts, 630 Reservoir Ave. Wilmot was transported to ACI Intake, according to Cranston Police.
