Senator Anthony P. DeLuca II, District 29 announced his candidacy for re-election this week.

A lifelong Warwick resident, DeLuca cites his service on impactful Senate Committees, including the Senate Committee on Judiciary and the Senate Committee on Commerce, as highlights of his first term .In addition to his legislative work, DeLuca was appointed to the Permanent Joint Committee on State Lottery, the Senate Non-Plurality Voting Commission, and the Joint Commission on Female Recidivism.

“I have enjoyed connecting with constituents, listening to their concerns, and being their voice at the State House,” DeLuca said in a statement.  “My focus has been and will continue to be fiscal responsibility and structural change to improve the lives and livelihoods of Rhode Islanders.”

“I love Rhode Island, especially the beautiful community of Warwick, but I know first hand that Rhode Islanders are struggling daily with high inflation driven by unchecked government spending. Our government should be part of the solution, not the problem,” he said. DeLuca said he is working “diligently” for tax relief and reforms.

DeLuca served as an East Greenwich firefighter for more than ten years before working for Med Tech Ambulance. He is a licensed EMT and now works for the Warwick Water Division.

He says his background “brings a unique perspective to advocate for effective investment in our infrastructure, expanded educational opportunities, small business support, and the preservation of our individual rights and freedoms.”

A Republican, DeLuca was first elected to the Senate in the 2022 general election following a bitterly fought Democratic primary won by progressive Jennifer Rourke. He was the only Republican to win a seat to the city’s General Assembly delegation.

DeLuca is a graduate of St. Kevin School and Warwick Veterans Memorial High School. He is the father of Tony, a student at Pilgrim; Catherine who also attends Pilgrim and Emily, a student at St. Kevin.
