There are very few words more life shattering to hear than “you have cancer”.

But, for Cranston’s Glyn Morgan, that is what happened to him in 2013.

“My connection to LLS (Leukemia & Lymphoma Society) started In November 2013 when I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma - a blood related cancer that starts in the bone marrow,” Morgan said.

He started an intense schedule of chemotherapy at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in December 2013, and underwent a bone marrow transplant at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in March of 2014.

“Now, ten years into remission, I have accepted a nomination as a candidate for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Visionary of the Year 2024,” he said proudly.

“As a cancer survivor, my motto is ‘Don’t Stop Believin.’  I live my life to the fullest, I work full time for IDG, Inc. as a Business Architect and have a busy social life that includes following many of Rhode Island’s best local bands such as Those Guys, Heavy Rescue Band, What Matters, Steve Smith & the Nakeds, He Said-She Said, Smash Box, and many others,” Morgan said.

Other hobbies include restoring prize-winning Jaguars and Range Rovers which he takes to local car shows, as well as photography, music, and Interior design.

“To make this journey fun and easy to participate in, I have created “The Crush Cancer Crew” – a committed team of close friends and family.

Together, we have set a fundraising goal of $50,000! The money raised will help LLS to create a world without blood cancers and fund cutting-edge research and treatment,” Morgan said.

Morgan is competing against several other candidates in Rhode Island. Each of them fundraising in honor of their little hero, Emerson Lucier.

“Emerson is seven years old and loves to go to the beach, playing with friends, watching Halloween movies, and skiing. At the age of 14 months, Emerson was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Throughout her journey, she endured numerous chemotherapy treatments and received two bone marrow transplants. Emerson is now 4.5 years in remission and is not only surviving but thriving as a loving and caring 2nd grader,” Morgan said.

Morgan’s mentor, is Cranston native, and former LLS Visionary candidate, Justin Erickson.

“I met Glyn 12 years ago when he was planning his end of the world partner at Vanity Supper Club.

At the time Glyn was a good customer of ours, he was a regular and frequent customer. Then, all of a sudden he wasn’t around.

We found out he was battling blood cancer, and now he’s a 10 year survivor,” Erickson said.

As a former Visionary candidate, Erickson fully relates to the challenges the campaign brings.

“This 10 week campaign is a stressful and straining time. But, with the money being raised this year for another Cranstonian (Emerson), it’s special in it’s own way,” he said.

Morgan and his team have been very busy holding fundraisers around the state.

Coming up on Sunday, April 21, at the Pub on Park in Cranston is Sunday Funday.

This event includes bowling, pool, video games, comedians and music, is being held 12:30 pm to 5:00 pm.

To contribute to Glyn’s campaign you can send a check to Glyn Morgan 128 Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston, RI 02920. Make check payable to “The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society”, memo Glyn Morgan.
